On Thursday, 29 trains and planes were delayed because of heavy fog and moderate rain in Delhi-NCR. Visibility problems may continue to persist on Friday morning due to the constant rain and thick fog. 

With temperatures ranging from a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 17 degrees Celsius, the predicted weather conditions could intensify the chill. Many districts have extended their school winter holidays due to the extremely chilly weather. 

School Winter Vacation in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Lucknow

School Closures in Lucknow and Other Districts: In Lucknow, the district administration has extended winter vacations for schools up to class 8 until January 16, 2025. Schools will reopen for these students on January 17, 2025. For students in classes 9 to 12, school timings have been modified, starting from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Other Districts in UP:

  • Badaun: Schools for up to class 8 will open on January 17, 2025.
  • Rampur and Moradabad: Schools will remain closed until January 16 for all classes.
  • Bareilly: Schools will remain closed on Wednesday, with updates to follow.

Patna and Bihar School Winter Break

Schools Closed in Bihar Until January 15: Due to the extreme cold wave, all schools in Bihar were closed until January 15, 2025. Schools for students above class 8 have been rescheduled with new timings: 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, ensuring the safety of the students amidst the severe cold.

Delhi School Winter Vacation Extension:

Changes in School Timings and Hybrid Classes: Due to ongoing cold weather and dense fog, schools in Delhi have been instructed to continue with hybrid classes for students in classes 9 and 11. Schools for students in classes 1 to 8 in Ghaziabad will remain closed until January 18, 2025.

Noida Schools Affected by Cold Wave: Schools in Noida for students from nursery to class 8 will remain closed until further notice due to the cold wave and poor visibility.

Ghaziabad School Holidays: Extended Break Until January 18, 2025

Due to the ongoing cold conditions, schools in Ghaziabad will remain closed for students up to class 8 until January 18, 2025. Schools are expected to reopen on January 19 or 20, depending on the weather.

Uttarakhand School Winter Break:

Winter Break for Schools Below 5000 Feet: Schools in Uttarakhand, particularly in regions below 5000 feet altitude, observed winter holidays from January 1 to 13, 2025. All schools in these regions are set to reopen on January 15, 2025.

Jammu and Kashmir School Holidays: Long Winter Break

In Jammu and Kashmir, schools will remain closed until February 28, 2025 for students in classes 1 to 12. This extended winter vacation is due to the severe cold and snow in the region.
